I loved the article in today’s paper that said Fast Signs is giving away welcome home banners for military personnel. Kachina Sign Center has been doing this for years! We also make free decals for the babies that have to wear helmets. And do signs for great charitable organizations at cost. This week my employees will be pulling up sign posts at St. Pius X at no charge. We love being so involved in our community.

2012

As I look back on 2011 and begin to look forward to 2012, I wonder what this new year will hold. I have all sorts of questions. Will sales go up. Will I be able to hold my costs down. And how will the election this year affect small business. These past few years have been uncertain to say the least. Most businesses have been gripped with fear. I might think “How I long for the old days”. Yet I have learned many lessons from this recession. Putting these lessons to work will be a tough job. I do look forward to the challenge. And I pray every day for our country. A country that has been broken but I … Read More…

New Year!

As I am closing out 2011 and preparing for 2012, one thing that came to mind was efficiency. As a small business owner who has employees who have been with me for many years it is easy to become complacent. At our morning meeting we discussed becoming more efficient. Breaks and cell phone usage were two topics. An extra break here and there can add up over the week and those quick phone calls to the spouse can also take precious time away from designing and manufacturing. So I have reiterated some of the rules that have been in place all along yet have been forgotten. Another thought was to do more price shopping with my vendors. Prices have increased … Read More…

Sign manufacturing & installations.

Sign manufacturing and installations are an art. It takes a minimum of 3 months for us to train in a new employee and years for them to perfect the art of sign manufacturing. There is a lot of detail involved in the sign making process. And specialized equipment to learn to run. Installations also take years to perfect. Our employees have ongoing training. Although a few people think that they can make & install their own signs, they always end up calling us to help them out. I believe that too many sign shops sell themselves short when it comes to charging for installations. Pricing should be based on difficulty and time involved. Remember, this is a very specialized field! … Read More…
